Northern Valley Community Information
The Northern Valley is a region of Bergen County which consists of nine municipalities: Alpine, Closter, Demarest, Harringtion Park, Haworth, North Covale, Norwood, Rockleigh and Old Tappan. Originally the area was part of Harrington Township, created in 1697 when the British assumed control of Bergen County from the original Dutch settlers. At the beginning of the 20th Century, with the exception of Rockleigh, eight boroughs were created from Harrington Township. Rockleigh was formed as a borough in 1923, from an area known as East Northvale. Eight of the towns are now part of the Northern Valley Regional School District, while Alpine students attend the Tenafly High School District. | |

Haworth
A residential community of approximately 3400 residents, Haworth is noted for its tree lined streets and small town charm. Long time residents know that "Tank Hill" got it's name from a Water Tank at the top of Haworth Avenue, when the Haworth Water and Light Company provided services to the town. Haworth's Ivy Street Bridge over the current CSX Railroad Tracks was built so that a farmer could get to his fields. Today, it still serves as an alternate way to beat oncoming trains to those local residents in the know. |
